I use Nix to manage literally all my devices, and this single repository contains configurations for everything—routers, servers, personal computers, and more.
Having a centralized configuration makes it much easier for these devices to interact seamlessly, which used to be a daunting task. For example, my routers use my servers as a repository mirror, and there’s only one place where each server’s domain is defined. I can set the domain value to a new one, deploy it to all machines in parallel, and have TLS certificates generated within seconds—all using Nix.
Traditional configuration management tools like Ansible can’t match this speed or consistency, largely due to their imperative nature.
